U.S. seeks input on licensing rules for information tech security

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Biden administration said Friday it wants new public input on establishing licensing or other procedures to help companies comply with a sweeping new rule targeting Chinese technology firms.
On Monday, the U.S. Commerce Department allowed a regulation issued under then President Donald Trump in January to take effect over objections from U.S. business groups.
Days before Trump left office in January, the Commerce Department issued interim final rules aimed at addressing information and communications technology supply (ICTS) chain concerns posed by China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela
The regulation said Commerce would adopt licensing or other pre-clearance procedures by May 19.

Canada regulator seeks information from public on Rogers-Shaw deal

(Reuters) - A Canadian regulator on Tuesday asked for information from the public on telecom company Rogers Communications Inc's planned C$20 billion ($16 billion) purchase of Shaw Communications Inc to check for competition concerns. The deal announced in March to create Canada's second-largest cellular and cable operator has attracted regulatory scrutiny. The Competition Bureau said in August it obtained court orders to advance its review. The regulator on Tuesday asked market participants and Canadians to come forth with information that could assist the regulator's probe on whether the deal will reduce or prevent competition.
